In the interest of seeing how PI is used I am keen to learn what industries everyone is using PI?

So far I have worked with PI in:
- Manufacturing
- Oil & Gas
- Pharmaceutical
- Power

I wonder how far the reach of PI has got to? Not had any exposure in the automotive industries, I can think of some great applications for this!

So what industries have you worked with PI and what scale of work was it? Single 5k tag system or multiple 100k tag systems??

I've been mostly PI-ing at Oil Refineries, but also on upstream operations, cheese factories, breweries, pulp and paper plants, nuclear generators, dog food plants, water treatment/distribution, pharma...petrochem, specialty chem...

When I was at OSIsoft the office was working on an interface for auto information..one of those "just for fun" things for a Users Conference.

Of course the PI System is best suited to continuous processes as it's not a transactional system per se... but to take your auto idea a little further, imagine the interest that ship operations monitoring could have, I mean those things are like massive floating plants....airplanes too... there has been interest from aviation companies in PI.

Doug...the thought of getting PI on board a ship is a good once, I can imagine this would also be relatively easy too. Beaming the data to a central PI system would enable the shipping companies to keep a real time check on their ships (although I am sure they may do this already). Lots of possibilities here.

Planes are another good one, if there is interest (or previous interest) then there is a gap with monitoring - maybe long term analysis for corrosion on planes, near misses and the analysis of information leading up to that event etc.

I am thinking these industries need exploring further...
