I am wondering if anyone knows of a way of cleaning up the pi message (.dat) files? We had an incident where one error multiple times leading to a dat file of 8gb. The error is irrelevant now but we need this disk space back, however we don't want to simply remove this file as there were other errors in this log which we would like to keep live for the time being. Can we purge these logs in any way? When I run the pigetmsg comman I do see a [F]lush option, but I can't find any documentation on what this actually means! Many thanks.

Hello, I think this one sounds like an OSIsoft TechSupport call, I can only presume they have a utility for this. pigetmsg, pi-api and PISDK only provide read-only access to the server's messagelog object. Let us know how you get on in case there is an undocumented method to do this...good luck! Principal Consultant Real-Time Data Management @ Wipro Technologies

No dice unfortunately! However they have mentioned that being able to control excessive duplicate entries in the message log is on the drawing board for 3.5!

OK, thanks for the update. It is strange that it is not already within the core PI system as with some interfaces like PI-UFL, repeated message are already filtered out. You see "This message was repeated xxxxx times.". Principal Consultant Real-Time Data Management @ Wipro Technologies
