Hello everyone,

After a month of membership of ths forum I thought it might be time to say a bit about who I am.

My name is Paul and I am based in the East Midlands area of the UK. I am currently working as a PI support engineer / developer for a major power and gas utility.

I have been developing in VB.Net and using PI-SDK libraries on various projects for the past 6 months but have been involved in PI on and off for about 15 of my 20 years with the company.

I also have experience in SQL, MySQL, Access, C++, FORTRAN etc.

I have recently come to the conclusion that I would like to concentrate my future career efforts in the PI area. I also conclude that this probably means looking outside my present employers circle. After 20 years with the same firm I'm a bit out of practice when it comes to finding whats out there. So I'm trying to come to grips with the concept of Full-time employment vs contract work and whether any IT recruitment agencies out there have even heard of PI (web-searching for PI often leads to 'Process Improvement' or 'Personal Injury' and so-on.

Can anyone tell me what it's like out there in the real world?

Cheers

Paul
