For information - Received this the other day, any thoughts on how this may impact us in Europe:

OSIsoft Announces Expansion with OSIsoft Europe GmbH

Wholly owned subsidiary established to drive business growth in Europe and extend customer support and service activities.

OSIsoft, Inc. who delivers the PI System, the industry standard in enterprise infrastructure for management of real-time data and events, today announced the acquisition of the remainder of shares of OSI Software GmbH from Hans Meder, as of July 1, 2008.

This acquisition, which occurs after 20 years of presence in Europe through a joint venture with OSI Software GmbH, consolidates OSIsoft operations around the world and positions the company to seamlessly support its enterprise and global customers in Europe.

"We see this investment as a great opportunity to further the presence of OSIsoft in Europe and to strengthen existing relationships with our important and rapidly growing customer base in Europe," said Dr. J. Patrick Kennedy, OSIsoft, Inc. Founder and CEO. "Our novel Enterprise Agreement program has been well received by our European clients because it streamlines software licensing and allows enterprises to bring critical real-time business data to their employees and facilitate better decision making. We look forward to delivering enterprise-wide visibility to more companies around the globe so they too can improve processes and drive innovation."

The wholly owned subsidiary, which will be named OSIsoft Europe GmbH, will continue the company's focus on sales, customer support, and customer service. OSIsoft plans additional investments to expand capabilities in other regions in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Engineering activities will be maintained and integrated into existing OSIsoft development operations at other locations.

OSIsoft will celebrate its success in Europe and take the opportunity to thank its customers for their 20 years of support at the OSIsoft Users Conference in Amsterdam, to be held from October 27 through 30, 2008. At the conference, OSIsoft will present its vision of a "PI Infrastructure for the Enterprise" that empowers business in real time.

This was really only a matter of time....
It's good news overall, it will give customers and partners more access to the company overall. Should be interesting for those of us in the PI business!

Well I think Hans is sat with his feet up thinking about his retirement right about now Smile

I don't think this will impact us in Europe, if anything have quite a positive effect on OSI's presence in Europe. Typically I have always dealt with OSISodt Europe GmbH and a lot of clients already have a lot of communication with the guys from Germany.

Hopefully OSI throw a good bash for their customers/partners to celebrate the acquisition.

I heard this rumoured a while back...I don't really think this will change anything for us in terms of support, we have always gone to Germany or the States depending on the time of the day, and calls have been passed back and fourth between the two offices transparently. It certainly never felt like two entities in that respect.

I just hope it doesn't mean an end to Hans' little PI village he has built. I was dead jealous the first time I set foot in there, it looks an amazing environment to work in!

I just wonder if the staff in Germany are ready to adopt to working the american way...I know from speaking to one or two of them that they weren't very big fans of how things were done across the pond!! ;)
Who ate all the PIs?

Should be an interesting ride ahead. There was a somewhat aggressive pitch towards Enterprise Agreements and managed PI at the last regional seminar I attended. There was even a point where they suggested that there was no longer a need for Independant System Integrators or PI Consultants, as OSI could handle all this themselves.

Burnikell, I don't think that will really ever come to pass.

OSIsoft has for at least the last 5-7 years been all about "products not projects". Some customers demand that the services come from OSI, so they keep Field Services etc. But those guys (I was one) rarely get involved in projects for longer than a week at a time unless the customer really puts pressure on.

This is one of the reasons that the company's approach to Sigmafine has changed so much in the last year. They realised that Sigmafine could not be packaged up and sold without a LOT of services...so now, guess what, it can only be sold by Sigmafine VARs (not by OSI sales). OSI does the coding and the tech support, stop.

Let's keep in mind that despite their amazing revenues, OSIsoft is only about 400 people (I may be off a bit, but in that order of magnitude). That includes marketing, tech support, training, admin, development, management, sales... not alot of room there to keep up with projects!

For better or for worse, that's their approach. They give you the framework, you do with it what you want...
